New Gauge Swap And Issues

Swapped my 1989 dummy cluster for http://www.ebay.com/itm/1987-1990-Jeep-Cherokee-Comanche-Wagoneer-Speedo-Cluster-85mph-130kmh-/160994981363?viewitem=&sspagename=ADME%3AX%3AeRTM%3AMOTORS%3A1123&item=160994981363&vxp=mtr&nma=true&si=hnRm%252BVdhnnm4%252FesIpu%252BKuRPE6qE%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 cluster. None of the gauges are working but the lights are. Hazards come on but don't flash. Anyone have any ideas?

This might seem simple, but I'll try to help you troubleshoot it. Did you replace the plugs on the back of the cluster the way you took them off? There is a right side up. Did you replace the coolant temp and the oil pressure sensor? Did the guy who sold it to you ensure all the gauges worked? The link just says the bidding for this item has ended. I know these are simple, but sometimes it is just that, something simple.

Sensors were swapped. Ive been looking thru the service manual and it looks like the wiring is different for the clusters. The speedo is working just fine. I hooked up the old gauges and the hazards worked fine. I was really hoping this wouldve been a plug and play but no such luck.

Oh sorry the plugs on the back can only go in one way since the size of the top and bottem connectors are different. I'm sure someone could hammer them in but it would take some work lol.

Forgot to mention I forgot to unplug the battery. I checked thru the fuses and everything is good near the kicker panel.

The wiring for those are the same as far as I remember.  I swapped in a cluster from a '90 XJ into my '86 MJ and everything works fine.  Sounds like to me that your eBay cluster is bad.  If your old gauges worked fine before then that's where I'd cast blame.

Gauge clusters are plug and play, just needing the different sensors.

Make sure the parts house didn't give you the wrong sensors.

 

I HAVE had connector contact issues before, and one ebay cluster had been worked on before, and had a later gas gauge in it, made it read bass ackwards ...took me a while to figure that out, since I was also doing tank/sender work.
