getbent
With on luck finding a 4.0 xj around here that is in my price range I started looking at other things and found an auto tranny for my 2.5l. the tranny from what I can tell its a 30rh not the best tranny but the truck doesn't get off the road other that getting a load of wood. Anyway I got a flywheel for it and after looking at it there is no ring on it for the cps to read. Am I missing something or is the flywheel not the right one? I have not started removing the old tranny from the truck yet. so any info on this would be great. Thanks
Minuit
The 30RH aka the TorqueFlite A904 was used on the early automatic 2.5/2.8 XJs before the AW4 came along in 87 so I would look for a solution there. If it doesn't have grooves for a CPS, it's the wrong part unless it uses some other method for a CPS reading for some reason. Otherwise, I don't have any idea because I've never had any experience with the super early models. Hope you get this sorted out
getbent
I checked the part# for flywheels from 86 to 91 xjs and they all use the same one. the auto tranny and the ax5/ba-10 that is in the truck now have the cut out for the cps so I would guess that there should be some kind of ring or notched on the flywheel for it to read. I could be wrong cause I don't have much experience with the 2.5l. hopefully some one can shed some light on this so I can get the truck back on the road soon
dasbulliwagen
The A904 is not a bad trans. Its a lighter version of the TF727 from Chrysler. There are a couple of easy upgrades you can do to it just at the valve body. Here is a link to an article that has a lot of good info and in it at the bottom is a link to the fix I mentioned. Does your current 2.5 have an auto already? If so, you can just re use your old flex plate (just FYI, on an auto its not called a flywheel), If it doesnt already have an auto, youll need the correct flexplate, sounds like you might have one for a carburated 2.5 from 84-85. Good luck and let us know what you come up with.
mvusse
The flex plate you got with the tranny might be from an 84-85 Cherokee. The 2.5 in those years was carbureted and so did not have a CPS.
Biotex
This is the flexplate you are looking for.
getbent
NO the truck has a 5 speed in it now. the flex plate that I got is for a 88 jeep mj with the 2.5 but it doesn't look anything like the one you have in the pic. could it be an autozone mess up with there system? Yeah its the wrong part from them, like was said, its probably for and 84 or 85 XJ 2.5. Take it back and try another one or get your money back and get one somewhere else. getbent
Hay Biotex do you happen to know the part# for that flywheel you got there do ya. I called pioneer tranny today to get a part # from them and the new # they gave me the center hole where it bolts to the crank looks to be a lot bigger that the one in the pic. did the crank size change from year to year? Don't have a part number. That picture is of one for an AMC 2.5L but don't know what year. I can't say if they had different cranks through out the years, as I'm not very well versed on the 4 cylinder engines. I was just basically showing you the picture so you could see the slots needed for the CPS.
getbent
so after checking a few different part stores and getting the same # for a flexplate can anyone tell me the center hole size and a measurement across the crank bolts?
