I've currently got the BA10 puke box. It shifts good, but i'm a little gun shy of it.

I don't like the idea of the computer controlled AW4, although I hear it's a very reliable transmission, and readily available for cheap.

Has anyone swapped in a 999 trans from say a 91-95 4.0 Wrangler? I'm h*ll bent on having an automatic in this rig, but may have no other option than the AX-15 if i keep being as picky as I have been.

Is swapping in an AW4 going to be more of a pain than a non computer controlled 999? I'm not sure how much wiring actually goes along with the AW4s.

thanks for any help.

'Computer controlled' is kinda a misnomer for the AW-4. It consists of one TCU, and one plug. The TCU is self contained, and its not really a big deal. The TPS on the motor is different also. A puke-goat uses a three pin, and a AW-4 uses a 4 pin. On both of my 88's the plug for the other TPS is there.

A big seller for many Wrangler owners converting over to the AW4 is the benefit of the overdrive, allows you to keep the axles geared lower while maintaining driveability.

If you're worried about the TCU, wire it up to shift manually with a switch, controlling torque converter lockup manually as well.
