MtnClimber
Remember the lower you go in gear ratio (higher numerically) the smaller the pinion shaft is going to be. In a D30 w/35's+, that'll be your weak link. What a PITA to change versus axleshaft u-joints. Toss in a crawl box for the rocks/climbimg and keep good street manners too with a set of 4.10's-4.56's. mnkyboy
The 231 to 300 would be best. The issue with doubling 231s is once the torque is multiplied by the first case it now exceeds the maximum torque of the second case so you run the risk of braking it. It might be easier to run a 4.1:1 in your current case. Also if you go to a D44 you can go as high as 5.89 in the axles, depending whats available for the rear axle. If you under geared you will find yourself hitting obsticles with more speed which isnt gonna be good with your current setup
CoryMJ89
Where should I look for the 4:1 I know Tera flex sells one

Yeah I know the pinion gear gets small easier to snap I really wanna do the 4.56-37s but everyone on here is against it
mnkyboy
I'm not sure if anyone else offers a 4.1:1. Check this out, this is a great tool. http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html
CoryMJ89
I post on naxja and asked bc I couldn't find if the Tera flex was noisy in 3rd and 4th gear on I 4low range or all range
mnkyboy
Ive heard mixed reviews. Really what would be best is an Atlas but the 4.1 is more realistic for most people.

nickhuts
I had motive gears in my past YJ on 37s and my current comanche on 37s with dana 44s, all have been 5.13s, detroits........they take a beating!! No regrets yet. I also used their install kit, bearings, shims, all went well.
CoryMJ89
How much was the install kit bearing was tht all necessary
mnkyboy
Minimum install kits are about $40 they come with shims, pinion seal, marking compound, and a cover gasket. A full kit is around $100-$150 and comes with everything the minimum kit has plus new carrier bearings and pinion bearings, depending on axle they can come with other bearing and seals as well. Not sure on your 8.8 but since you have 3.07s you will need a new carrier for your D30 they are about $70-$80.

Darren
If I was going to run 37s on my Dana 30 (which I would never do) I would run 4.56s. The 4.88 only has one tooth on the pinion contacting the ring gear. Everybody I've seen blow up a Dana 30 R&P was running 4.88s.
