rockhumpingMJ
I'm trying to figure out where to mount my tank because I moved my leaf mounts about 12" forward and am chopping the bed. It's a long bed I was thinkin about choppin a hole in the bed and bolting it down but one of the corners are folded. My question is can I bend that corner flat I know it comes like that from the factory that's why I'm asking
gogmorgo
Or maybe cut it off? I'd say that's less likely to compromise the seal than trying to bend it back, so long as you keep vibrations down. Or you could sell it to someone who needs one for their stock MJ and use another one. I remember seeing someone on here using an XJ tank mounted in the bed like that. Unlike the MJ tank, the XJ one is designed to clear the driveshaft, so it's shorter and flatter, with a channel running down the center.
rockhumpingMJ
Yea I saw that. Might go that route I just cut the bed down I need to do a little more cutting before I can weld it together. I might steal my brothers tank off the parts Cherokee
dave92cherokee
If you get an XJ one you can do like they did in this thread: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1046499&highlight=gas+tank+cargo+relocation
rockhumpingMJ
Excellent I was trying to figure out how I was gonna bolt it down and that answered it lol good thing I have extra angle iron
ParadiseMJ
Would an alternate tank work...like a fuel cell? Mounted in the chopped bed? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-290104/media/images
mvusse
How is the XJ tank "designed to clear the driveshaft"? In an XJ it mounts behind the rear axle where there is no driveshaft.
dave92cherokee
And if you're going through all that work you could possibly mount two of them in the front of the bed going side ways and have a dual tank setup that would hold ~50 gallons. Okay, didn't know that. When Napa screwed up my order over Christmas and sent me an XJ tank, it had a valley down the middle of the bottom of the tank. Figured that was what it was for. Just an anti-slosh thing, then I guess?
rockhumpingMJ
I would love to get a cell but I killed my pockets with the motor rebuild so I'm trying to do what I can with little money and I need to get this back on the road by the 28th cause I'm moving so I might just ratchet strap the stock tank in the bed just for the move(there will be a quad sitting on top of it too) then pick a tank up when I get the truck to my new place. Just need to fix my drunken cuts I made on the bed and I will be set:D Oh and cherokees do not have a "drive line tunnel thing" lol I know I've dented quite a few lol
