CWLONGSHOT
OK, guys, I believe what I have here is two transfer case skid plates for XJ/MJ's. One is a 242 and the other is a 231 skid. But which is which??? NUMBER 1 NUMBER 2 I believe the first one is for a 242 T case and the second one is for a 231 T case. PLEASE CORRECT me if I am wrong!! bri
DirtyComanche
Your wrong either way. One is for if you have an AW4/AX-15 and the other if you have a peugeot. I think. Or you're right. I could look at my skids to tell you, if I could find them.

Eagle
Pic #1 looks like the one that was on my ex-GF's '88 XJ with 242, and it's also like the one I added to my '88. It hangs down pretty far beneath the 231 in mine, and I always suspected it was intended for the 242. I don't think they were based on the tranny, I have always been led to believe they were paired to the transfer case. The 242 case is slightly larger and hangs down slightly farther than the 231, hence the difference.
mjeff87
#1 is a 242 skid. Wanna sell it? :D I'm picking up a 242 this weekend to throw under the MJ (and I forgot about needing a new skid.....unless the 231 will clear?) Jeff

Jeff space your 231 skid down a little on the frame end, you can drop it down with a piece of 1" square and it will clear. You'll need longer bolts obviously. Same thing that you get with those transfer case drop kits.
