Mj Aw 5 Shift Extension

My manual is for 89 mj and shows a set screw to remove the shift extension...my mj is an 88 and no set screw...anyone know how to remove it, so I can get the tranny out?

I'm a little confused. There is no AW5. I'm assuming you mean AX-5.

 

Unscrew the inner shifter boot, and remove the 4 bolts holding the entire assembly in. It's not too bad on the AX-4/5.

Don't need to unscrew the 4 bolts. Push down on the ring around the shifter and rotate it 45 or so degrees and the shifter pops out.
