87mjdriver
Lokking at my truck it appears to have a good rake to it and it also has a lot of wheel hop, mopre on that later. so I get out a tape and measure from the ground the rocker panel (just aft of the front tire and forward of the rear tire) and I find out that I am 1 inch taller in the rear( seams taller). I am rolling with 8.5 inches of lift up front an a SOA with a 2 inch block in the rear. like I said I am getting horibble wheel hop so I thought I should take out the blocks to eliminate the hop. but what to do about the lost inch in in the rear. a)get a 2 inch AAL. I worry that this might be to stiff to flex and ruin the street ride but it would definatly kill the hop. OR B) I found set of shackles from rocky road off road that should give me 1 inch or a set from rock crawler that will give me 1 1/2 inches, I don't how the shackles would effect the ride. which would you do and why thank you allen
comancheon33
On my MJ after I went 7.5 in the front with lorgarm and SOA in the rear I was about 1.5 low on side and 2.25 on the other. Left spring was weak from the tranny andt case laying back there for 3 years before I got it. What I did was take the main leaf from a half ton suburban, I had it laying around and it was 56 inches long. I cut the eyes and then trimmed to fit. Flexs very well and rides like before. Plus it supported the main leaf almost entirely. It worked for me and might work for you. Plus I have only a small amount of wheel hop with 33 inch boggers. I have to really try to get to wheelhop. feerocknok
I would soak up the juicy goodness that those leaves have to offer with a longer shackle, oppose to losing ride quality with an add-a-leaf. I also doubt with 8.5" of lift the truck sees hauling duty to often to justify the upped payload.
Pete M
I second removing the blocks and adding another leaf. I used a main MJ leaf, cut the eyes off and added it under the main in my packs. That should be good for an inch and it'll help control springwrap. My newest MJ is getting the same treatment, but I'm using a main from a code-F Explorer pack. Oizarod115
i thought longer shackles contributed to springwrap? (springwrap=wheelhop correct?) I'm gonna have to go with the modified extra main leaf as opposed to a regular stiff AAL.
Pete M
i thought longer shackles contributed to springwrap? (springwrap=wheelhop correct?) Yes, longer shackles can contribute to springwrap. Springwrap can cause wheelhop, but you can still have 'wrap without the tire doing anything funny. A common indicator of springwrap is when the rear end of the truck drops significantly when you hit the gas.
