HOrnbrod Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 I'm looking at a 1990 Eliminator, build date 8/1989. In the VIN decoders it comes up as a factory Eliminator, but the 8th digit in the VIN that designates the model number is an "L", not a "5" (Eliminator) as in all the VIN decoder data I've seen. Any ideas as to why? Oh, and when I run the VIN, it does come up as a 1990 Eliminator.
maddzz1 Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Just a guess Don, but didn't some of the eliminators come from the factory with 4wd? Maybe the 4x4 eliminators had a different code in that place to designate as 4wd from the factory? I also found that an "L" in that spot is for a wrangler laredo or a cherokee laredo.

I'm fairly certain the 4WD and LWB Eliminators started in 1991 Jim. And the Elim I'm referring to is 2WD with auto. :dunno:
fiatslug87 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 The 6th digit designates the series and Eliminator is 6, the 8th digit is the engine, L is 4.0. From the '90 FSM:
HOrnbrod Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 Thanks Mike. Bum dope on the internet. Yet another reason to have the correct FSM.
