reddog
I have heard of people using chevy drop shackles, I don't know what ones to get. I don't need a big lift just a few inches to get the sag out of the rear end.
jeepthing07
1988-2006 Chevy drop shackles like this... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lowering ... enameZWDVW Them are the light duty ones though and someone had them fold oversideways. I lucked out and found some Con-ferr HD 1.5" drop shackles on ebay for $20. But i had to sand down the frame bushings because they were a little to wide for the hanger. And i had to stick 2 washers in the spring end cause it was a little wide. I don't think any of them will just "bolt on" but its easy to make them fit. Pete M
Have you checked for broken leafs yet? My 88 was saggin' (back in the day) and during the buildup I discovered a broken leaf on each side.
reddog
Yeah I replaced two lower leafs when I had my rear end out so that can't be it. I check on ebay all the time and they have some on there for a 2in drop . What kinda lift would that be for my truck? I don't need heavy duty ones I don't go wheelin hard or anything. Pete M
The ones right above the thick overload leafs? Did you use leafs from a 2wd or 4wd?
reddog
I went and got some made at a shop around here. The ones they made me were thicker than the pieces that were on there. I have I think 4 leafs in the back thats the way I got it and it rides stiff . I don't know if they used 2wd leafs or not. Would bad shocks cause it to sag? Sounds like you have a bastard leaf pack that's not working. And no, bad shocks will not cause sag. If you are looking for "a few inches" via extended shackles, prolly won't happen. Rule of thumb is for every inch your extended shackle is longer than your existing shackles, you can expect 1/2" of lift. IOW, if your existing shackles are 5" hole to hole, and you put on 7" hole to hole extended shackles, expect 1" of lift. Extended shackles alter the arch and lift characteristics of the leaf pack, and will wear them out pretty quickly, and could cause spring wrap. More better for you (if you nee a few inches in the rear) is to go SOA (about 4-5" lift), get a new set of 5-leaf Metric Ton packs (about 2" lift), or get something like Rusty's 4" lift spring packs (4"-5" lift) and remain SUA. Just my 2-cents.
