C2C Rocker Re-Fit?

Recommended Posts

A couple people have said "so and so makes great replacements"

but I have never seen any convincing pictures.

There was a couple on Ebay that looked promising,

but, at the time, I didn't want to get stuck with more crapermarket junk like the JC Whitneys,

and ordered factory replacements.

Hopefully C2C really is willing to make some better replacements for us,

then the problem is solved.

I may be dreaming, but I would love it if someone would make a U-weld-it rocker kit out of 3/16", pre cut for folds.

Not rock rails,

but an actual replacement rocker that closely follows the original shape,

made out of 3/16"

Like the JCR rear bumper kit that was just introduced.

Lol!

I haven't had a chance to accurately compare the XJ to the MJ rocker

but I think they are pretty close,

minus the capped off end of the MJs.

If it would fit both,

I don't think a U-weld-it 3/16" rocker replacement is that crazy of an idea.

Not at all, it would be crazy awesome if a company did take up the idea. But like everything else for our trucks, it would make for an extremely limited market for who ever did decide to make said rocker kit.

Well, The weather has turned cold pretty quickly here, and I have no inside place to work on the truck, so for now, I am simply going to treat the rust and live with it till spring. Sinkrun....Your photo is what I had before I trimmed the top half of the rocker off. I can now massage them into place pretty well. The good thing I have going, is, the top part of my existing rocker is still in pretty good shape. IF anything, I can weld on a thicker piece of metal underneath to re-inforce it before I weld it on. I'll keep subscribed to this to see if there is any progress by C2C. So far, I have not gotten anymore info from them.

No pics for now,

but the measurements are all pretty basic.

Rocker depth changes throughout the length of the rocker;

Underneath the fender, rocker depth is 3"

Immediately after the fender, sharp bend increases rocker depth to 3.5"

Gradual increase until 39" after the fender bend.

@39" from fender bend, there is a crease to allow rocker to fit behind cab corner

Rocker depth just before cab corner is 4"

Underneath the cab corner there is a 3" long ramp that reduces the rocker depth back to 3" to finish off the rocker.

Entire channel section of MJ rocker is 48" long, with a 7.25" capped end welded inside.

So;

Rocker depth is 3"(x4" long section behind fender),

sharp bend to 3.5" depth

------>gradual increase (over 39" span underneath door) to 4",

ramp (3" long ramp behind cab corner) drops it back to 3" deep (for last 2").

Done.

FWIW,

XJ rocker is nearly identical to MJ rocker,

both have the same ft fender bend & dimensions except;

XJ rocker is ~63" long (depending on where you measure it)

and STRAIGHT, with gradual increase in depth.

Open on both ends.

MJ rocker is 48" long, with a crimped in ramp where it tucks behind cab corner.

MJ rocker also has a 7.25" long welded on end to close out rocker.

Added end piece increases MJ rocker to aprox 53.25" long.

Hey man how close are the XJ rockers at the rear of the front door compared to the MJ rocker?

In other words does the taper on the 4-door XJ rocker match the 4" depth at the end of the 39" span?

I'm thinking a 4-door XJ OEM style rocker should be able to be easily modified to work. At worst, just cut off at the back of the front/only door and patched in... thx.

Sorry I took so long to respond to this,

I think an XJ rocker would be a great place to start,

how close it matches the MJ rocker would depend on the quality of the XJ rocker.

Most aftermarket rockers I've seen are way off compared to the factory parts.
