Zenobian_84
Looking at doing this in the very near future; along with replacing the water pump. Hopefully the later will solve my back-pressure leakage problem. On topic though; how difficult / time consuming is replacing the timing chain cover gasket on the 2.5? Any tips to be shared with a first time "attemptee" other than to not rush it? Hopefully this should be the last oil leak I have to deal with on this little engine. :crossfingers:
cruiser54
The gasket is leaking, not the seal? If so, the front of the pan is gonna have to be loosened. Getting that sealed back up might be a bear.

I couldn't say for sure whether it's the gasket or the seal. All I know is that there's a lot of oil blowing out from behind the harmonic balancer; and it's covering the entire front of the engine bay; along with all the suspension under the block. :dunno: It could be the seal; or a combination of both. cruiser54
More than likely the seal. Especially if it's being slung all over the place by the balancer.
mountainman
may not be the chain gasket, but the front main seal.
JFAComanche6
I replaced the tc cover on my 4.0 and it sucked hardcore. I took off and replaced my leaky oil pan gasket and.had to remove the a/c bracket (you might not have to on a 2.5) but the alternator bracket had to be removed too, as well as all the fans. It actually felt easier to put back on, minus the oil pan. As far as I know, the 2.5 and 4.0 covers are very similar if not the same.
