what to do with extra 4.0 motor

I have an 4.0 I-6 form a 89 XJ thats been sitting on my trailer for the past several months. I am not sure what i want to do with it. the motor ran fine before i removed it from the donor. I am just not sure what to do with it.

I have never really messed with the engine aspect of our MJs so i have considered using this motor as a learning experience, removing and replacing things i normally would not touch on my running MJ in fear of messing something up.

another thought was to store it for when one of our engines explode.... err stop running... what would be a good method for long term storage? and what type of prep work should be done?

any other ideas? if anyone wants to come pick it up i am fine with that too... I just want to get the use of my trailer back lol

I had the idea of picking up a spare 2.5 / small AMC V8 a while back and doing a complete re-build on either; since I plan on going to school next year as an auto technician. How familiar / in-depth with replacing things on the 4.0 are you? If it were me, I would get an engine stand and check out the internals of it and learn to replace things as I went along. :wrench:

Specifically: Rear Main Seal, Rollers, Cam, Oil pump, Lifters, etc etc.

Besides, there's plenty of 4.0s out there you can pick up for cheap; in case something got messed up. As for storing it, be sure to block off any and all ports or open holes whether you store it on the floor or on a stand. Critters and bugs love to make nests inside engines, not to mention they tend to accumulate dust and dirt. Wouldn't hurt to put some mothballs on and around the engine either. An even better idea would be to put a large, clear bag around the engine if it were on a stand, with mothballs inside and outside of the bag.

Keep in mind also that when you plan on storing an engine for an extended period of time (6 months +) any and all gaskets will probably have to replaced when its put into a running vehicle. Or so I've been told. :dunno:

Door stop. Hook a motor to it and make a air compressor out of it. Boat anchor. If you do decide to keep it and store it, don't seal it in an air tight bag. They rust faster that way than one laying out on the ground with just a board over it.
