I"m thinking you probably put the spray on the Neutral Safety Switch on the side of thr tranny and it found a way inside the switch to ground out a gear switching solenoid. Go to this site to get info on testing the NSS without taking it apart.: http://www.cherokee-jeep.com/1-2swremov.htm I haven't been there since 2006 so hope its still there. Should be 4 pages of info on diagnosis of the AW4 tranny.

Will I cleaned the neutral safety switch and it still the same. I had a scan tool put on the truck and it said

1 The brakes were on and the trany was in 1

(the brakes were not on and it was in park) :dunno:

2 the tanny was not getting an rpm reading?

What sould I cheak now? The crank shaft sinser?

Ok I got the plug on the fire wall cleaned and the small white plugs on the side of the tranny clean. Nothing's changed :headpop: is the speed sensor replace able and what does it look like?

Thanks Jon

The speed sensor is replaceable. Don't have a pic. It's a rubber plug with a 90 degree (inside) sensor. Outside it just looks like a thick wire with a plug.

about as long as a spark plug...almost looks like spark plug wire...at the back of the trans, like said.

This is an old post but I thought I'd bring it back to the top because it was a big help to me.   I was planning to take my MJ into Krown Rustproofing yesterday.   It's generally a good idea to have the underside washed so the "slime" they apply sticks better and doesn't trap in dirt, etc.   I took it through a car wash.   I've done this before with my other jeeps (XJ, TJ & LJ) and have never had a problem.   Right away it wouldn't shift in to 2nd gear.  I figured water might have got into the NSS (didn't think of the speed sensor).   I never thought that water would make it all the way up to the TPS but that's what happened.    Anyway, I replaced it and all is good.   I'll go over the NSS and speed sensor too ... because I'm sure they'll be the next to go.

Thanks for the tips!
