deziped
I"m thinking you probably put the spray on the Neutral Safety Switch on the side of thr tranny and it found a way inside the switch to ground out a gear switching solenoid. Go to this site to get info on testing the NSS without taking it apart.: http://www.cherokee-jeep.com/1-2swremov.htm I haven't been there since 2006 so hope its still there. Should be 4 pages of info on diagnosis of the AW4 tranny.

HOrnbrod
Check the plug, connector, and wiring on the speed sensor, left side of the tranny, on the AW4 transmission extension piece.
jons87mj
Ok I got the plug on the fire wall cleaned and the small white plugs on the side of the tranny clean. Nothing's changed :headpop: is the speed sensor replace able and what does it look like? Thanks Jon
ParadiseMJ
The speed sensor is replaceable. Don't have a pic. It's a rubber plug with a 90 degree (inside) sensor. Outside it just looks like a thick wire with a plug. about as long as a spark plug...almost looks like spark plug wire...at the back of the trans, like said. PCO6
This is an old post but I thought I'd bring it back to the top because it was a big help to me. I was planning to take my MJ into Krown Rustproofing yesterday. It's generally a good idea to have the underside washed so the "slime" they apply sticks better and doesn't trap in dirt, etc. I took it through a car wash. I've done this before with my other jeeps (XJ, TJ & LJ) and have never had a problem. Right away it wouldn't shift in to 2nd gear. I figured water might have got into the NSS (didn't think of the speed sensor). I never thought that water would make it all the way up to the TPS but that's what happened. Anyway, I replaced it and all is good. I'll go over the NSS and speed sensor too ... because I'm sure they'll be the next to go. Thanks for the tips!
