Cherokee vs. Comanche Brakes

How would the rear brakes of a '87 Cherokee, Dana 35, 2.5L auto, compare to the brakes on my '86 Comanche, Dana 35, 2.5L auto?

 

I'm thinking of snagging a set of 4.56 Cherokee axles, and wasn't sure about swapping all my fresh brake equipment off of my 4.10 Comanche axles onto it if the Cherokee's brakes aren't up to par condition whise or quality whise.

In reading a bit...I find that D35's XJ's are a 9" drum while the MJ's are usually a 10. But I think they are both 1.75" wide. I haven't played with any 4cyl's to se if they are different..but why should they be??

 

D44's are bigger in MJ's 10" X 2.5" wide.

the brakes on my 1990 mj had a 9 inch drum with 2.5 inch shoes. but i would asumme you could just swap the backing plates and everything should fit right on.

Should be the same. Pretty much all the AMC XJs and MJs used 10" x 1.75" rear brakes, except the D44 axles had 10" x 2.5" drums. I've had one guy swear his '89 XJ came from the factory with a D35 and 10" x 2.5" brakes ... but he bought it used, so I don't know how he's so sure that setup was "factory."
