Akula69
Today, my son and I took down the gas tank on the Christmas Jeep as it was leaking fuel at the sending unit. After cleaning the tank and re-painting it, we replaced the main locking ring O-ring, and the smaller O-ring around where the wires go into the sending unit. Unfortunately, the unit still leaks around where the wires enter. I carefully removed the retaining nut and re-used it, but cannot seem to get it tight enough to seal against the O-ring. Hs anyone replaced this O-ring and used some other method of retaining nut? The origional one does not seem to work well. Thanks Jake

ComancheKid45
You can usually get new Lock rings and O rings from any Auto Parts store, chances are it has been tweaked a bit. Remember the XJ (Cherokee) lock rings and o rings are the same as well ;)
zekekb
I went to the local auto parts store and purchased a new o-ring and a box of push nuts in assorted sizes. I also ran into the issue of not being able to get the new push nut close enough to the sending unit plate to get a seal. I ended up using a deep well socket that was just large enough to slip over the plastic stud where the electrical connections are. I then used a c-clamp to press the socket down onto the push nut, thus compressing the o-ring enough to create the seal.
