Cost of constructing a garage?

My house has been on the market for a while, but I still want to have a plan for when it does sell. Realistically, when I buy again, I'd like for the house to already have a large two-car garage, but if I can't find anything I like in my budget, I'd consider buying a less expensive house and building my own garage to spec.

What is a realistic price for an over-sized two car garage? I probably wouldn't put heating or AC in it, but I'd finish the interior and insulate it. I'd want plenty of electrical outlets and tall enough to put a lift in at some point. Vinyl siding most likely would be the outside. I'm thinking somewhere in the $30,000 range; is that reasonable?

Again, I have no definite plans, but just trying to get an idea.

$30K is way too high if you do it yourself. My shop is 24ft x 32ft, concrete slab,

frame walls, truss roof with shingles, large roll-up door, wired, insulated, sheetrocked,

and painted. It was permitted for FL wind code and it cost me less than $15K.

depending on the size of the lot you have there are ways to keep it cool from the ground by running several feet of 3in pvc to create a intake and exhaust to keep your shop cool and save some bucks and not kill the environment

About 4 or 5 years ago my brother added a 24x24 two-bay garage to his house. As an addition it had only three walls, and it wasn't heated or insulated. He paid about $12,000 ... and got a crappy job, with the building hanging off the foundation on the end. We did the electric ourselves.

$30,000 is reasonable. You can probably get a decent job for a bit less than that, even with electric and insulation, but that's a good budget number to be sure you're covered.
