Painting Fender Flares

So next summer when I spray my new Basecoat/Clearcoat Royal Blue Metallic on the MJ I would like to also spray the fender flares the same color. Right now, I have the stock black rubber ones and am wondering what I need to do to get them prepped for paint. Does anyone know a difference from the black ones and painted ones? Just wondering what I'll have to go through.

you would most likely need to sand them lightly with a fine sandpaper and use a flex agent in the paint so it won't crack as easy when you bend them slightly.

 

talk to a local bodyshop or a paint supply place, i know they can be hard to get information out of but if you can. also try ppg and house of kolors website i am sure they have tips on how to use there products, and what stuff to add for rubb/plastic pieces.

when i painted my eliminator last summer, i tried to use a black rubber one because one of my painted flares was pretty bad but we had a hard time making it look good. i then tried painting my bad red one and got it to look pretty good. sandind the rubber ones are pretty dificult so i would get a set of painted ones.

Yep, thats kinda what I was thinking about already getting some painted ones would make the prep alot easier...
