Paul Bruchal
I have unbolted all 8 bed bolts. I have to undo the gas tank and breaks from the bottom of my bed? Am I missing something? I thought it would be easier than this to remove a bed. So i got the idea of bolting the bed back to the frame and cutting the floor out of the bed. And that would be my flatbed base. But I really don't want to cut up a perfect inner bed:
Eagle
The gas tank comes out with the bed. Unless you plan to re-use it. And I'd cheerfully toss the rear height-sensing proportioning valve. Since one of mine exploded in a panic stop I don't trust them.
Geonovast
The gas tank comes out with the bed. Unless you plan to re-use it. Last time I pulled a bed I had to remove the gas tank. One side of the straps sit in the frame, and the other side bolts to the bed. Also, I didn't have to touch the prop valve. That should be bolted to the frame crossmember. You will have to unbolt your e-brake bracket, but you don't have to remove it. Just get it off the bed. You'll also have to remove the tail lights. I haven't dealt with a LWB, but I don't believe they're any different.
Automan2164
Once you drop the tank, bolts, and any hardware/wiring, it should lift right off with 2 dudes. Done it many a time. Rob
jimoshel
You don't have to completely remove the gas tank. Put something under it so it only drops a inch or two. After removing the bed, place something, I used square tubing, across the frame and fasten the tank back up to it.
Paul Bruchal
Well my E brake doesnt work, and my gas tank isnt even 1 month old. I thought it was way harder than that. I called my friend which is a metal fabricator, he came over and said the easiest way to do what I want is to just cut the walls off. I told him that I wanted to keep the bed, but he said it wasnt worth it because of how rusty the truck already was. SO I cut 1 wall off sofar. He told me to leave him some metal to work with, just incase i cut too much off the first time. http://www.axialracing.com/ftp/scx10_honcho/index.html
dave92cherokee
After cutting the sides out I'd still remove the bed anyways. Looking at the pic it looks like the driver side frame right behind the cab has some rust on it. For removing the bed should be the main bolts holding it in, the J bolts for the gas tank straps, metal gas tank skid if equipped, e-brake piece, spare tire holder, and exhaust hanger in front of cross member. Paul Bruchal
What are your plans for your MJ? I pretty much have the lift together: SOA, I'm guessing 5"-4.5"JY XJ coils. Thinking about Drop Control Arms. Until I can afford Long arm Upgrade. 33" tires. and finish the rust!
