Blue88Comanche Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I have a Dana 44 from a cherokee and plan to take it somewhere to have the perches cut off and new ones welded on. Will the Shock mounts be reusable or will it be best if i use the stock mounts?
MJRemi Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 The shock mounts for a MJ are on the leaf plate so I don't think you can use the XJ mounts. If I'm wrong, hopefully some one else will chime in.
flint54 Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Correct. The MJ shock mounts are re-useable because they're on the plates and will transfer.
Blue88Comanche Posted December 13, 2011 Author Posted December 13, 2011 i knew the leaf plate was reusable, just dident know if it would be better to use the leaf plates or move the xj mounts.

Trying to ues the XJ mounts would be a VERY bad idea. The upper mounts on the MJ are studs that run perpendicular to the long axis of the chassis. So do the stock lower mounts, and that allows the shocks to rotate as the expand and compress. The XJ axle mounts have the studs running parallel to the chassis axis, which would not allow the shocks to rotate properly.
