Hi there CC.

This is my first post here, so bear with my lack of knowledge.

I've been changing the entire clutch assembly (SC, MC, clutch pad, pressure plate, etc.) out in my 88 MJ for the past week between my college classes (hard as hell to do alone and without the correct tools). The good news is that I'm just about done.

Then I found this.

I was looking all over for the hole it came out of, but wasn't able to locate it. I'm guessing its some sort of vent line, maybe for the differential?

If anyone knows what this is, the help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

is their a hose like the one in ur pic all ready on ur diff?..... if not on the back top left hand side of ur front diff u will see a whitish peice of plastic thats were ur vent is

or could be a vent tube on ur tranny?

That's actually what I was originally thinking! I already have the vent hose on my Pukey transmission though... I'll go take another look at my differential and see if I can find the hole you described. Thanks!

The transfer case breather on mine is a tube with a hose clamp on it. It runs alongside the transmission breather and they both end in 90 degree metal fittings.

I swear, this one is giving me quite a tough time :hmm:

After actually staring at the pic for a while it looks like the axle breather tube. Is there already a tube coming from the back of the pumpkin on your front axle?

There is not, but I cannot find a hole either. I don't doubt at all that that is what this is now, after having done more research... I'll have to do a more thorough search for that hole tomorrow morning.

besides the axle vent tube (99.9 percent sure) did anybody notice the kick a@@ table/counter? I couldn't stop staring at the pic, its like one of those pictures with a hidden pic in it.

ok maybe I'm just retarded :dunce:

OK I'll take a shot at describing location of vent hole.

Looking at the pinion from the rear, at about the 1:00 o'clock position, top of flat spot on strengthening web.

It will not be on the rounded part of the pumkin or in the axle tube.

the answer to this question would provide a good clue for me: Where was the tube mounted to the chassis/body and how long is it?

assessing it just from the cream colored end that is attached to it, it looks like an axle/transmission/transfer case vent tube as stated earlier.

This will be difficult to find. I had my engine out and I was on my hands and knees behind the differential and I still couldn't see it. As I remember it was on the back-side of the pumkin about 2:00, I think mine came in from the back side horizontal into a flat area just above the axle tube. If the hole has any crud on it you will have to take a small pick and probe for the opening. If you do find the hole try not to push debris back into the hole, use a spring hook and q-tip to clean it out.

The tube is between two or 3 feet long and I remember seeing the top of it poke out near the washer fluid tank.

I've finished the clutch replacement, and I will check it tonight and get back to you on whether I find the hole.

Thanks for all the help! :wrench:
