The 231J I got for my 4wd conversion is a later style with a "boot" on the rear output as opposed to a metal "cone." Will this cause me any issues?

Thanks

The older style is actually a bit better as it gives support to the yoke with the longer tail shaft housing. If you plan on lifting the Jeep later on, it will also let you lift it higher without any vibes. Another advantage is that you can get a stock drive shaft to fit your Jeep, assuming you can find one in the junkyard.

i've never had issues with the newer sealed output shafts and "no extra support". actually, I find that to be a fairly moot point.

just remember this....it's a sealed output...you can blow your rear ujoints on your driveshaft, remove it, and drive home in 4wd without losing fluid.

been running one in mine for the last 2+ years with no problems. Actually ran it in 4H (FWD) a bit until I got a rear shaft cut to size. Just pull the electric speedo pickup out and swap in your old one, good to go.

How does the older style provide "extra support"? All it's doing is moving the seal back further so that it has to seal against the yoke itself. It's not actually holding the yoke up.
