ritzer Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Just when I am stopped I put it in any gear at it starts to whine, almost sounds like how a pulley would. When I put it in neutral it continues for a second or two. I should be looking for a new trans huh? Everything shifts fine, just a shame if I would have to replace it.
Geonovast Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 When you're stopped, the clutch in and the trans in a gear, it can't whine. This is the point in the transmission's operation that nothing inside is moving. Sounds like it's your throwout bearing.
JeepcoMJ Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 throwout bearing isn't being used unless the clutch is being pressed. front input shaft bearing, mid-plate bearing(s), or front cross shaft bearing are taking a dump. I have a 4x4 ax5 sitting here, if you're interested....just north of waterford in wind lake and a 2wd one, IIRC. -Pat
mvusse Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Pat, he says it only whines when stopped and in gear. This means the clutch IS depressed -> throwout bearing.

ritzer Posted September 12, 2011 Author Posted September 12, 2011 Alright that makes sense. Yes, clutch depressed only. Pat- I may take you up on that 2wd soon anyways though. My rev is going. I just had this trans out not too long ago. Pm me a price.
