steering help please

Recommended Posts

Start first at the steering column linkage U-joint, follow that to the Saginaw steering gear box, then pitman arm, then drag link, Tie rod ends and Track bar.

30 degrees is a lot, I'm betting you'll find that slop in the gear box. You can adjust some of the slop out by the adjustment screw on top of the box. The more you adjust it, the faster it wears out though.

i was finally able to get someone to help me find the steering problem.. got my little brother to turn the wheel while i was under it.. it looks like the track bar is loose, is there a bushing that needs to be replaced or do i just tighten it? or does it need to be replaced all together.. it is loose on the drivers side

thanks

no bushing, it's a tie rod end. if you're lucky it's just loose, but more likely is that it's worn out and the track bar needs to be replaced. keep en eye out for ovaling of the hole in the bracket that the tie rod end goes into.
