wthayer
hello, i have a 1988 2wd shortbed auto mj. i found a 1988 4wd shortbed 5 speed mj. i have a few questions, 1) can i use my auto trans? 2) will the t-case bolt to my trans? 3) will the driveshaft from the 5 speed work with an automatic trans? 4) do i need a new computer for the trans? thanks for any input
JOMJ87
No about the trans working with the T-case they are way diff. and the d-shaft lengths may be different and the trans I believe does not have a comp in that year but double check that one. Oizarod115
the auto tranny has a longer d/s by about 1 1/2 to 2 inches... i know this because my brothers driveshaft(s) and my d/s are both sitting in the garage... the long one(s) are his. you'd be much better off putting another auto in the truck thats a 4wd auto tranny. Pete M
Plus if you use the axles, you'd be getting an even worse gear ratio than you have now. :(
fiscus
nope, nope, nope, nope. What's wrong with the 4wd MJ that you can't sell yours & buy it?
JOMJ87
Or why not swap motor and all over to yours. I would buy it and use it unless its to rusty or torn up. You could put your motor in it if it haas a bad one and they are the same. Cole
