Can a short bed gas tank work in a long bed. The reason for asking it the short model tank is way cheaper

yes. Mount it in the forward position and use two straps.

just put a "short " bed tank in my long box comanche . yes , you only need 2 of the 3 straps to hang it ... however , the gas filler location needs a little "re-routing" . i used a couple copper 90 degree angles ( from the local plumbing supply ) to get the right configuration ( took a couple attemps ) but it worked out near perfect ! take your time , and good luck ! :cheers:
