500 MJ Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 I'm actually in the market for two of these. The ones I have now are starting to dry rot / crack / decay. They are not flexible anymore and need to be replaced. Let me know what you've got and your price. I'm only looking to buy good ones that are not dry rotted and are still very flexible. I have one good one out of three vehicles so I do know that they exist. Thanks, - Brent
500 MJ Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 If I could be so choosey, it seems that the part numbers changed on these from '87-'88 and '89-'90. Both of the ones that I have that are "junk" are off of my '90 Jeeps. The '88 one is in great shape. I'd prefer the '87-'88 model...p/n 5300 2736 - I found this number from the parts catalog, I could not find the number on the boot that I have. '89-'90 model p/n 5300 6196 I have verified that both "junk" boots have this number on them.
philbert001 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I have 1 each, 89 and 90, and they are both still in great shape! I would call yours a fluke. (Or maybe mine!)
500 MJ Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 My '90 MJ spent lots of time in Florida. I have no idea where my '90 XJ came from. The XJ's is the worst, its so hard you could use it to take dents out of sheet-metal.
philbert001 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 :rotf: Least we know what you are gonna do with it after replacement!
Backdraft Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Brent, give me a week or so to make it down to the property and check my old 4.0. I know it has the boot, just not too sure how flexible it still is.
500 MJ Posted June 28, 2011 Author Posted June 28, 2011 Sounds great - let me know how it looks. Thanks!
500 MJ Posted July 12, 2011 Author Posted July 12, 2011 Got two of them at a yard (both '87 model year and they were still good), no longer need any.
