imstuck
Just wanna double check that I can bolt a 97-2001 rounded front end on to my MJs fenders. And also my door window regulators are tired (can't roll my windows all the way down without having to help them up) and I would like to switch them to power, so can I take the innards out of a newer XJ and door panels as well and have them fit properly? Id replace my whole doors but i have a nearly perfect 91 MJ s.w.b. 4x4 Eliminator (rust free!) and want to keep it all together. Even the interior looks nearly new. Ive read before these things can be done but I'm double checking! Thanks everyone!
Geonovast
The 97-01 header panel will fit with the MJ fenders, but it'll require some trimming. IMO, if you have the header panel, fenders, and doors from the XJ, you should swap all of it and have it all match. It's gonna look a little funny with the newer header panel and the older fenders. NewfieMJ
It's only the top corner edges of the header that don't line up . The rounded edge sticks out about 1/4" , too bad . I tried just the header first , but wasn't long before pulling it off to install the fenders . It would be nice to swap the doors as well Check out my build thread , it's full of pics on the XJ body swap viewtopic.php?f=7&t=29680 If your MJ is that clean , I doubt I would change any parts . What you have is rare enough . You could probably fix the regulators with a little grease
Eagle
Just wanna double check that I can bolt a 97-2001 rounded front end on to my MJs fenders. As already noted, the new style fenders are more rounded at the top, where the old style have a chamfer or bevel. When you put the new header on the old fenders, the upper/outside corner of the header extends beyond that chamfer. If you don't want to buy new fenders, a work-around is to fill in the back of those rounded corners with Bondo before you mount the header. Once it's in place, you shave down the corners to blend into the chamfered profile of the old style fenders. What you wind up with is the new style grille but not the more rounded profile of the newer fenders.
imstuck
Wow, you guys are a wealth of information! I think I'm gonna go with Eagles idea of building up then shaving the new header to match the old fenders. I just can't bring myself to take anymore parts off this truck. I just added 2011 17" Rubicon wheels with 245/75 GoodYear DuraTracs (had to use adaptors but the wheels look perfect just barely peeking out of the fender wells) and a 3 1/2 lift to give it a taller stance. Also just had the original Eliminator decals applied yesterday for that true retro look. Wish I could post some pics to share but gotta figure out a way to shrink them first! Ive owned 34 Jeeps before this one(mostly Wranglers) but since I got this one my 2004 Wrangler Rubicon sits in the garage. Love driving this truck cause people are constantly asking me "Jeep makes a pickup?" And they are shocked when I tell them it's 20 years old. The New wheels make it look a lot more modern. Thanks again everyone! Rick

Thanks again everyone! Rick Too bad you can't post pictures as I have a set of 17" Moabs and stock Rubi tires that were taken off my JK and I would like to see what they look like on a Comanche. On the JK, which is a lot heavier, they measured 31" on the ground. I have been thinking of putting them on the MJ as I really liked them on road and off when they were on the JK. Spacers shouldn't be much of a compromise. -meljr

maddzz1
Also, The insides of the newer style doors and the door panels won't fit in/on the older doors.
imstuck
It looks a lot like that white MJ/ Rubicon for sure (which is sweet by the way) But sits a little taller. I think the wheels on the white one are from a pre 2007 Wrangler which would make them 16" not 17s and the design is slightly different as well as the back spacing. And thanks for the headsup on the door panels not interchanging. If I need new regulators what years of Cherokee will swap out if any? Ps working on photo bucket pics now. Thanks Ricky

scobad
Where...did that light bar come from?
Garvin
The lightbar came off a Liberty but, from what I read, takes a good bit of work to get it to sit flush to a Comanches roof. For the regulator, any one up to '95 should fit. If you're adding power mirrors, you will need to get the wiring harness inside the door for them. You will need to get that wiring from a '91-'95 as the part that connects behind the kick panel has a different connector (the regular has the same connector between '87-'95). shawn
No like this one wow thats a beautiful truck. ( picture- saved!) i would immediately go and get the black 97+ fold-in mirrors for it though.
imstuck
Thats a great idea. Will they work with my doors? They agre the original ones.
shawn
yes - i just put some on and they look good and they work good and the white truck in the pic above seems to have them. - most 97+ ones are electric though so i just bloted them on and adjusted them and good-to-go. -- then i put the interior-cover pieces back on.
