wheeling trip jamminz.gif

well i get done with the trip and look for damage

i find my moog sway bar bushings are ovaled....got new ones today...i can feel it in the steering now....its wierd.

anyways, i got this crazy noise coming from under my truck as far as i can tell. it starts..""whining""?? at 35mph.

and as i go faster, it gets louder.

this only happens when i hit the gas though. it seems to be coming from the tranny area, but I'm really not sure.

i did go through some crazy mud and water, but i cleaned it real good right after the trip.

tranny fluid is good.

anyone got anything that might help me find out what this noise is?

thanks

paul

Just thinking out loud here (really typing out loud, but you get the idea)......Have you checked the fluids in the transfer case and the rear dif? Also, take a look at the linkage and make sure that it's not bent up and that the t/c is fully in the position you think it's in.

In your video, when you say "This seems to be where it's coming from.." isn't the camera is looking at the t/c? Hence my questions.

i had some wierd noises coming from mine after wheeling one day and i was almost 100% sure it was the trans. well after the pinion seal started to pour out fluid i figured out it was the rear. the pinion bearing was loose and making all kinds of noises. i pulled the cover to find out half of the fluid was water. i then drained the trans and had water in that to. i guess thats what happens when you go headlight deep in water. but it did get louder when i was accelerating. so i'd put my money on the rear axle.

i searched around and found a d44 and everythings been fine ever since

The rear axle has a noise when the wheel is spun in reverse. A ticking. I stuck my finger in the hole. Ha ha. And it was good. The fluid wasnt up to the hole. About an inch or two below it. I don't know about the drive train at all. I just learned about the suspension so far. I have no idea of the part names. I don't know what to do next. Garage?

did you pull the cover and check the fluid condition? i know after going headlight deep in a water hole my fluid was half water. that is what destroyed my bearings. if you have the d35 this will give you an excuse to swap a d44 in. if you did get into deep water make sure you drain and refill everything.

i know from my experence it did sound like the trans was making the noise.

and my rear axle got really noisey starting at about 35mph just like you are describing.
