86ComancheXNate
I'm slowly but surely doing the 4.0L/4x4 swap in my 86. Since its getting hard to find a decent donor for cheap that isnt a pos I'm going to try to piece it together from jy parts. I think I'm gonna start by pulling a motor and tranny and rebuilding the motor if it needs it and then go from there. Few questions: What year cherokee should I look for an engine donor? Any particular parts I should look out for?
mnkyboy
Your gonna be better off with a parts car,its gonna cost a lot more in pieces and all the little odds and ends are gonna suck to gather up.
86ComancheXNate
well another idea I've been tossing around in my head is to get a motor and tranny from the jy for a few hundred and have them both rebuilt. And then save up some money and get a donor for the rest of the stuff and then just sell the 2 left over engines.
Pete M
rebuilds aren't exactly cheap. I think you'd likely still be better off spending the extra bucks on a decent donor with a good drivetrain but a bad body. heck, some guys have purchased perfectly good XJs (97+s in particular) and then gutted them for their swap. All depends in what you want in the end.
