dirty88comanche
I picked up an 1988 Comanche Laredo for $500. Runs great and I want to put a lift and tires in. For a lift I'm looking to go about 4inches and don't know what company to buy from. And I'm wondering what size tires will fit and as well as the brand i should buy. Also any opinions on a body lift. Any comments/suggestions that will help are appericated.
JOMJ87
You can't body lift a MJ they are unibody and this Post should be in tech really. But welcome to the club as for the lift and tires You should consider SOA (spring over axle) rear and making a bastard lift out of different companies parts for the front to match and then most guys run 33s with that and they usally get about 5"s of lift with a standard SOA setup. Hope you understand this since your new to 4x4 stuff if not ask what I'm talking about and Someone will help you more. Again Welcome Cole

Do you have any particual suggestion for the suspension? Thanks for the help

Twisty
I'm in mass too, but you are ~2 hours away from me. look at RE for a lift, or you could just piece together a lift with new/used springs, controll arms, trackbar.

Oizarod115
the most complete lift KIT available is the RubiconExpress 5.5"MJ lift. which is the SOA kit. look at the components in that kit and you'll see what all is required. some of the stuff they do isnt necessary.. but all of it is a good idea. and just FYI.. i havent been able to peice together a kit comparable (even without alot of the things in the RE kit) for a price anywhere NEAR that price. i think i came out 200$ over their price (not including all the extra shipping it wouldve taken) and i had left a few items they include out entirely. comancheboy69
i love making custom stuff but if you bought the 5.5'' kit its gonna get you pretty damn close to anything you could make, plus the kit is designed to control death wobble(you might not have been introduced to this but youll find out), and bumpsteer, both of wich you have to weed out if you go custom, and the kits are a good price, Make it Happen! Eagle
You don't need more than 3" to do most of the trails around that part of Massachusetts. NAXJA-NAC wheels up around North Adams/Mohawk Trail a lot. I've done many of the trails with a stock XJ, and a lot more with an MJ at 4" of lift on 31" tires. Yes, there are always a few trails where another inch or so would make a difference -- but that's true no matter how much you lift. Personally, I would not go SOA because if you start out thinking 4" when all you really need is 2" or 3" -- SOA is going to boost the rear about 5-1/2" and then you're really looking at problems in the front, because you can't go that high without drop brackets and adjustable control arms, or long arms.
