the U-joint is likely just frozen in with rust. you can try kicking it, or prying with a prybar, but be prepared that it can quickly come crashing down when it frees up.

ever picked up a 2wd MJ driveshaft? the ones with the rubber isolator? :D thems heavier than they look.

but regardless, I was thinking more along the lines of damaging the u-joint if it fell to the pavement.

its light...?

Do I really have to give you a pound measurement? Put down your purse, pop the joint out of the yoke and see for yourself.

I would just remove the whole thing... It just slides out of the trans once you have the axle end free. Just put a pan under it to catch anything that might come out.

Would recommend marking the orientation of the driveshaft ears to the yoke before removing as some are balanced better one way than the other. Just mark on one side with chalk a line so you can line it up afterwards. I mention this as after i removed mine to replace the rear u-joint I just put the shaft back in. Made an aweful howling, took bolts out rotated 180 and reinstalled, noise gone. :wrench:
