Ok I've had my truck for a few months now. When I got it it was a mess. It seemed almost like it hadnt had any attention in months. Well right after I bought it I got the oil changed replaced the plugs and wires, and the distributor cap, rotor.

Well now its about time for another oil change and I was wondering if I should do anything else while I was at it.

I was wondering if I should:

Do a transmission flush?

and

Replace the rear diff fluid?

Yep,

Replace all fluids if you haven't already. Drain and fill tranny, don't flush.

Assuming you have an AW4.

Flush & fill coolant

Both diffs

Flush brake fluid

Flush power steering fluid.

Clean things up.

Very important to maintain all fluids on a regular basis unless you want stuff acting up and/or failing

Ok to start with draining the fluids. How do I drain the tranny, rear diff, and brakes? And what should I use to replace the fluids.

I have an auto tranny with the 2.8L v6 2wd.

My rear end is an AMC 20

as far as I know my brakes are stock

1. Buy a manual. It'll give you the basics...and it's all very basic.

2. Brakes - Dot 3

Power steering - Power Steering fluid

Rear end - 75/90 - choice of brand - I use Red Line.

Tranny - depends on the tranny.

3. Buy a manual

I'm pretty sure I have the AW4 tranny.

When I drain the fluid should I replace the filter?

On an auto, yes. The filter is cheap and easy to change while you have the pan off.

Fluid type Dex/Merc III

Capacity:

"Service" fill (drain and fill at regular intervals) is right around four quarts.

"Dry" fill (fill after overhaul and replace torque converter) is around nine quarts.

A "minor overhaul" will typically take five to five and a half quarts, assuming the TC hasn't been drained. Safest is to put in four quarts, idle the engine while shifting through all gear ranges (at least 30 seconds in each range to fill the valve body - 30 seconds going down and 30 seconds coming up) and check/fill as needed afterwards.
