Manual Steering gripes.

Ive only had the MJ on the road since 3pm yesterday and already I'm jonesing for a PS pump and gear.

 

its a pain in the arse. couldn't park it at walmart or canadian tire lastnight, had to sit it diagonally across 3 spots.

 

Hopefully next weekend I can make it out to my friends place and get that old XJ he has sitting there. AX-15, 201, I6 w/ 90, 000km and all the goodies.

Are you sure there's nothing wrong with the steering box or the linkage? Maybe it's low on lube? Surely steering that's THAT hard is NOT normal.

 

I had a '77 Dodge full-size van with manual steering and it was not that hard to turn, and you just KNOW it had a heckuva lot more weight up front than a Comanche ...

its not tough, its just a b*@$£. if I white-knuckle the wheel, I can turn it while the trucks not moving... its just a pain :)

OK, was just curious ... I've had my share of manual-steering vehicles ('89 Ford Escort and Chevy S-10, '77 Dodge van, '80 Dodge Aspen, etc. etc.), and, given the power steering problems I've had with various vehicles over the years (mostly my GM products, like my present Safari), I'd rather have manual!

 

But it is definitely one of those "to each his own" things ... not everyone likes it.

I've had my share of manual-steering vehicles ('89 Ford Escort and Chevy S-10, '77 Dodge van, '80 Dodge Aspen, etc. etc.), and, given the power steering problems I've had with various vehicles over the years (mostly my GM products, like my present Safari), I'd rather have manual!

its decent, bumpsteer is slim to nill, I finally figured out how to back into my driveway, without driving in and out 50 million times :)

Anything off-road and manual owns you bad.

 

 

 

It's not the same, but I broke the serpentine belt on my XJ (idler seized) and had to load it onto a trailor like that. 4lo and steering like that, takes a half hour to load the f'ing thing.

idlers are a real PITA.. my brothers won't stop squealing. even after being replaced. wish we could do without.
