New Comanche tribute site

Yeah, I am kind of thinking that may have been a mistake on Carfax's part. I dunno. But probably. I've visited the AMC Eagle Nest on quite a few occasions. Very helpful site ... if I can't find a 'Manche I can live with, I may "settle" for an Eagle, if that's what you want to call it. I think the Eagle is, arguably, one of the best-thought-out vehicles that any US automaker has come up with. Some may disagree with that. I don't care. I like 'em, and that's all there is to it. -

D'oh! Oh well, at least I know there are still a few around here. I did see a 2WD recently, but I never could find out whose it was or -- better still -- if I could buy it. There's one (an '89 2WD) on eBay over in Boonville, IN, but I don't know if I want to try and fix whatever is causing it to, as the seller puts it, "spit and sputter" when you push down on the gas pedal. Thanks for the comment about the site. I keep working at it, hoping to make it better every day. So far, I haven't manage to FUBAR it too badly! JN -
My uncle used to joke that the engine in his '73 M-B diesel was made of compressed cow chips! :D

Chrysler has NO idea what's going on... weird
JN_comanche_luvr replied to Oizarod115's topic in The Pub
That is good info to have. And as far as pricing goes, it's not out of line at all, at least for the build sheets. I sent off and got one from Studebaker Autoparts Sales Corporation a few years ago as a Christmas gift for a friend of mine (he has a '64 Studebaker GT Hawk), and I seem to recall it was about the same price. If you're wondering why the price is that high, keep in mind that a lot of the older files are probably just that: FILES. They probably keep them in drawers, and they have to be copied or transcribed. It's time consuming and labor intensive in many cases. Oh, WAIT WAIT WAIT!!! I just went to their website and it says, and I quote: "No Jeep, AMC or Canadian-built cars available." That sucks really, really bad. -
Now, see, if I could find one that nice for that kind of money, I'd be all set. Is that gonna happen here in "Rust Country USA"? Oh, I only wish ... That is one super slick truck, man. Congrats and enjoy it!

All you have to do is contact DCX Customer Service via Jeep's (or Dodge's, or Chrysler's ... they all go to the same place) website and submit the last either 7 or 8 digits of your VIN (it's been a while since I did it, but I think it is the last 8). It took me about 3 days to get mine, and yeah, there was some info that was, shall we say, suspect. Of course, they really didn't want to know me when they realized the first one I asked about was a '92 Plymouth Sundance! I was thinking that ERB was the code for the 3.3L FFV (E85-capable) engine. Without going out and lifting the hood on my wife's Caravan, I can't be 100% sure, but I think that's what it is. If I get real nice and motivated, I might go take a look. Interesting indeed to see that they're reusing some of the old codes for new stuff ... wonder what the Charger/Magnum police package goes by. It sure would be neat if they were giving them the time-honored A38 option code, or even AHB (which replaced A38), for that matter. BTW, I'll bet those power, heated, folding mirrors are nice this time of year, too. -

I DEFINITELY don't want to duplicate Pete, I'm looking to more or less complement what I've seen here and elsewhere, and put it in ONE place. The owner's section I mentioned previously was suggested by others, but after giving it some thought, I don't know if I'm going to add one. Sure, it would be nice, but if we already have that here, and I think we do, why do I want to overlap? Wikipedia is great, and I have contributed to the Comanche article there, but my experience with that is not too good. It's so open to hackers that you never know what might show up on there. Trust me ... I wrote an in-depth article about the former Terre Haute House hotel (which was located in Terre Haute, IN, if anyone is interested) and literally spent weeks going back in there and fighting off ... ahem ... "changes" that were hacked in. Finally, guys, the next page I'm going to add on the site will be a links page. If anyone has 'em, please send 'em my way and I'll put 'em on! Jacob -
OK, was just curious ... I've had my share of manual-steering vehicles ('89 Ford Escort and Chevy S-10, '77 Dodge van, '80 Dodge Aspen, etc. etc.), and, given the power steering problems I've had with various vehicles over the years (mostly my GM products, like my present Safari), I'd rather have manual! But it is definitely one of those "to each his own" things ... not everyone likes it.
-
Are you sure there's nothing wrong with the steering box or the linkage? Maybe it's low on lube? Surely steering that's THAT hard is NOT normal. I had a '77 Dodge full-size van with manual steering and it was not that hard to turn, and you just KNOW it had a heckuva lot more weight up front than a Comanche ...

New Comanche tribute site

I do remember the "birth" of the Eagle brand ... my late grandfather had a friend who sold AMC/Jeep ... actually did OK with the Renaults too, but that's beside the point. If you should ever have reason to run a Carfax report on an '88 Eagle wagon (the 4WD, not a Medallion), you might be interested to know that, at least on the one I ran, it came up listed as a 1988 EAGLE EAGLE. Does that make it a "Double Eagle?" OK, that's a bit of a stretch, but I'm tired. Please forgive me! -
Spare tire mount
JN_comanche_luvr replied to Bounty Hunter's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Very nice setup you've got there. On my past trucks (Grandpa's old Ram and my own S-10, may it rot in the junkyard), I've mounted my spare inside the bed, but upright on the driver's side right behind the cab. I seem to recall the S-10 was a tight fit (short bed). Chalk it up to a lesson learned from Grandpa ... he always said it was best to have it where you could get to it quickly if needed (like me, he hated the underbody mounts  !). Probably will do something similar with my 'Manche whenever I get one ... just have to figure out how to do it without stake pockets ... hmmm ... one more little engineering job I'll have to take on! -
... I've set up a website strictly dedicated to the 'Manche. http://www.geocities.com/jeepcomanche8692 So far I have original factory photos from '86-88 and '91, looking for '89-90 and '92 (which would likely be reused '91 pics). The '87 info page is looking good, too, with info from the '87 Jeep Trucks brochure. Hope to get some good scans of that soon and get 'em posted, but no firm timetable yet. Work and family obligations are keeping my online time to a bare minimum right now. :headpop: If anyone has any info they'd like to see posted, I'd be happy to put it up, and if the interest is there, I'll start an owner's section. Hopefully I can get my 'Manche soon and put it there! Regardless, take a look and let me know whatcha think. Enjoy!!!

New Comanche tribute site
JN_comanche_luvr replied to JN_comanche_luvr's topic in Forum Issues, Ideas, Testing
OK, guys, got some more done tonight ... '87 page is up (no pics, just info ... pics can come later!) and I have touched up some graphics. Finally got the '87 brochure I won off of eBay last week, so I am in hog heaven! Found it interesting that on the back, it shows the following: RENAULT/JEEP VEHICLES DISTRIBUTED BY AMERICAN MOTORS SALES CORPORATION They really did try to forget the Eagle in the days before the Chrysler buyout, didn't they? At least they did something with Jeep, or I'd have nothing to make a website about! -
New Comanche tribute site
JN_comanche_luvr replied to JN_comanche_luvr's topic in Forum Issues, Ideas, Testing
If there is enough interest, sure, let's do it! (Truthfully, I was kind of holding off on that until I get mine ...) -
Well, inspired by my love for MJs and my limited experiences on here, I have started a Comanche tribute site. It's not much right now, but I plan to add to it as time goes on. So, for now, enjoy and I welcome all comments, suggestions, etc. etc. http://geocities.com/jeepcomanche8692 Jacob BTW, I am looking hard at a nice, unmolested '86 X with the 2.8, 5-speed, etc. More details will be posted elsewhere on the forum as they become available.
