varanus
hello everyone, i just got my first mj. i have had 4 zj's and love them but none decent in my area. anyways i want to do a front end swap to a 96+ zj does anyone know if this has ben done before? and if so does it require major fab work or bolt in? i have a 6.5" lift coming already. plans call for as much lift requiered to fit 35X15.5X15 with pocket flares and no trimming. a zj or 98+ xj dash conversion, a front clip swap of some kind. black paint with blue trueflames vinyl wrap, blue susp powder coating, either mickey thompson mtz's or pitbull rockers in as close a size as mentioned. front and rear offroad bumpers and winch. seat swap and most likely a ranger step side box because the closest box for an mj i can find in good shape is about 800 miles away in ohio, i am from canada. got a dana 60 rear axle already so need a front to match. any other sudjestions? this rig will be wheeled but not trashed thats why i am going with a vinyl wrap as appossed to painted flames cuz crap does happen lol. ZJ grand cherokee stuff won't work. matter of fact, there's not one single thing but sensors and the engine that will work in an xj/mj..and that's only if you have a H.O. of similar year. even the front axle from a zj would be a poor swap...it's a low pinion. good luck making zj stuff work...it's definitely going to require ALOT of fabrication. Pete M
What jeepco means is: welcome to the club! :waving: sounds like you've got one heck of an ambitious plan. if you're thinking of a full modernization of your MJ, a 97+ XJ will be a much smoother install (though there are some hiccups so be sure to read the couple conversion threads that are here in the projects forums) than a ZJ. MJs and XJs are very similar, but ZJs are very different. also, specific tech questions should really go in the Tech forum so more guys will see it, and then they'll be in the database for future members to find. This forum is more for sharing updates on your project's progress.
