kro10000
Well, last weekend I finally moved down here to Pittsburg KS. It's my freshman year here down at Pitt state and I'm going to be doing a double major with Mechanical Engineering and Automotive technology. I don't know if any of you guys have been around this area, but the tech center here is simply INCREDIBLE. They're forcing me to live in the dorms this year, which I don't mind too much since the guys on my floor are all pretty cool (even though its a mile walk to get food). The MJ is now serving DD duties, and unfortunately my latch ditch effort go get my matching gears XJ d44 in failed completely (due to the driveshaft length) it is stuck in 2wd until further notice. I did however, put my rebuilt d44 drums on to my d35 as I found the drums Ive been driving around with since last september were completely inoperable  . It's depressing that the Kansas Rocks ORV park is less than 30 mins away and I don't have a working 4wd. Though it's probably for the best since I'm now a poor college student with no income, and I'd have no way to fix something if it broke (wonder what my dorm's policy is on working on cars in the parking lot...). The mustang is away in storage until I can figure out what to do with it. Anyway I figured I'd give all you guys an update

87Warrior
Good luck down there... And watch out for the drivers. I swear Crawford county drivers are the worse I have come across. Do not let them play demolition derby with the MJ. My sister spent 3 years down there. Got tired of it and just started her Sr year at KSU. What gear ratio are you looking for? terrawombat
You don't need luck - you need have some serious dedication and you need to keep the distractions to a minimum. There is always something much more entertaining to do on (or off) campus than six hours of solving differential equations that have been solved 8 trillion times before by 100 billion different people. Mechanical Engineering isn't easy - I did five years of it and walked away with a bachelor's and if I ever finish my thesis and defend it, I'll have a masters. It was a long and strenuous time, but it's paid off. I live very comfortably and I have a solid education behind me that can take me almost anywhere I want to go. There will always be a shortage of engineers because most will drop out of the program in their first year of college. That's not to say you won't have fun. You just won't have as much fun as the education major down the hall who plays volleyball for three credits and gets to go out every night of the week because his earliest class is at 1PM. I had plenty of fun as a ME student and was very involved in the social scene. Even joined a frat, but didn't like paying monthly dues just to hang out with a bunch of other dudes that had nothing in common with me, so I quit. Oh, be prepared for some all-nighters. By your third year of engineering (if you make it that far), you'll bond and make some lifelong friends with other engineers in your class - you'll have no choice but to.
