STERLING STINGER
I've been reading my gas mielage for a few days now. i average 9.6 - 14mpg. i even tried to keep it under 2000 rpms as much as possible. i puled a light trailer and ran the air, as usual... and like i said, i babied it too. i guess I'm just trying to see if this is normal, and if not, how do i get better mileage. besides getting smaller tires. thanks, Paul
Dave Stark
Those numbers look about right to me, I never got better then 10mpg in my XJ with a 2" lift & 31's. They aren't exactly aerodynamic & these 4.0's are certainly thirsty...
Automan2164
With oversized tires, a/c blasting, and a small trailer, that sounds about right. Things you could do to help yourself out would be a tune up, cold air intake, header... You won't get much, but if your that worried about it, some things to try. Rob L. gl1200aman
The 88 comanche laredo, with 4.0 5spd, I drove back from NV. got 20+ mpg but that was with no a/c running. at 65-70mph in 55-65 deg. temp was 20 mpg. When it got warmer (70's) I had to slow to 60 mph to keep the temp around 210 or lower (found out later no thermostat) and then got 21 mpg. beepbeepmyredjeep
I manage to get about 23 mpg with my MJ. However, it is a manual transmission, no power steering, no A/C, 2.5L 4 cylinder. I guess that really shows how big a difference auto trans, (I'm assuming power steering?), 4.0L 6 cylinder impacts gas mileage.
