engine noises..........

Okay, not to down the yj/tj guys, BUT..... It seems to me on a few other boards there is a lack of intelligent, helpful conversation, when you post a tech topic, I'm hoping one of my fellow comanche/jeep enthusiasts may be able to help me out. I am working on a 2001 Wrangler with a 4.0 and 5 spd. I have a tapping heard mainly in the exhaust pipe after the header. I have used a stethoscope and heard nothing out of the ordinary at the intake/exhaust ports directly off the head, injectors, spark plugs, coils, oilpan, block (both sides). This "noise" can be heard in and around the Jeep, it really likes to reflect off passing cars while driving, it does get more frequent but no louder at higher rpm, and load plays no factor, neither does engine temp.

Has anyone come across this? is it a bad exhaust valve seat? like I said I can hear it the best under the truck, in the exhaust pipe after the manifold/header and cannot find any leaks/cracks/bad gaskets in the exhaust manifold.

Anybody????

Thanks!

Jake

Have you been posting on Jeep Forum?

Yes, I have, and I have already changed the oil and added a few different chemical "fix it" products. ( I've worked for Advance Auto for quite awhile now I really think I've tried them all ) and I am constantly being told to, "just drive it dude".

I would really like to solve this little issue as the owner of the truck is a very dear friend of mine, but I can't seem to crack it, and I was already the guy who replaced everything went something went wrong, (that guy was younger and not very informed and was lacking patience.....LOL)

check the rear stud on the exhaust manifold......I betcha it's missing

If it is and you can get to the remnants by pulling the manifold you'll be a lucky man. If not, the head has to come off to get it out and replace it. BTDT.

Talk about a nickel holdin' up a dollar...... :fs1:
