kastein
down south that truck shouldn't be so rusty... unless it was originally from somewhere else, or was driven on the beach a lot. That sender is really gross - you're sharq on NAXJA right? This looks familiar

That sender is really gross - you're sharq on NAXJA right? This looks familiar  This jeep had been sitting near the coast in clearwater for who knows how long. salt air i guess?? you should have seen the old gas i poured out of the tank today. nasty stuff. dark brown like guiness but no head. and yes, i am sharq on naxja. some douche who had 2 posts in back in 2004 registered the username shark. they won't give it to me because they said they don't delete usernames ever. i tired to get them to give it to me after i got tired of the username tigerShark. now i don't feel bad that I'm not a paying member anymore. maybe if my name was in red they might think about it. whatever. shark
just bought this coolant overflow bottle off ebay for $2 plus shipping to replace the ugly old overflow bottle. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/JZP-602-025-01/ i think I'm going to put it where the vapor canister is now and use a newer style box canister from a newer XJ and run the lines to the box under the cad somewhere. or i can put the bottle up front where the battery is now after i relocate the battery under the bed. I'm trying to clean up the engine compartment.

KCsurfer420
So where can i source a working fuel sending unit? I see that you guys are saying that the senders from the xj,s don't work in the mj's.... what is the diffrance? reason I'm asking is that my pump works fine but the guage has never worked... I was thinking about pulling it out and taking some emeory colth to the contacts.... I'm hoping this will solve my problems....... hum :???:
Gjeep
I think the senders between common year MJs and XJs are the same and are interchangable. I'll be getting into this more in a couple weeks when I pull a 91 XJ sender/ pump assembly and see in person. If you search online for photos of 91 XJ fuel sending unit and compare the image to your MJ sender it looks identical.

I'm sure any obd1 xj sender unit will work with your gauge if you have a '91 like me or then renix with renix . from what ive read, its the length of the unit that poses the problem. the mj tank is too deep for the xj pump/sender unit. the xj unit doesnt reach down into the tank far enough. theres a guy on here that modded the xj unit to compensate for this. am i correct on this? if not, someone please clear this up. drase
I remember seeing this MJ on CL. I'm glad u rescued it. Nice XJ.
kastein
it's the metal bracket / frame / bulkhead thing that the pump and sender attach to that are not compatible cross-MJ/XJ lines. The wire arm that connects the float to the sender itself may also be different but I'm not sure.
