freakjeep93
yours is a 86 right? if it is and you have the 2.8 make sre the carb is adjusted right. if its got the 2.5 it might need a sensor or something :dunno:

pwrliftin
yea its a 2.5. i replaced the plugs, wires, cap and rotor, new fuel injector and tightened up my intake bolts. not so much fixin but replacing
CWLONGSHOT
IIRC the 2.5 4 cyl is TB injection? If so, there are no injectors as on a 4.0L. Someone correct me, I haven't been under the hood of a 4 cyl in some time... Did you mean fuel filter? In any event, retrace your steps and take nothing for granted, remember these things are getting old, sometimes hoses can disintegrate form age and higher under hood temperatures. pwrliftin
it has a single injector, at the throttle body i believe. the filter is next. my friend said i might need a new exhaust manifold cause mine may have a leak in it somewhere
Eagle
The '86 2.5L is throtlle body injected. The injection/ignition system, although throttle body rather than multi-port, is based on the same Renix system used in the early 4.0L trucks (and XJs). The fuel-air mix is controlled by the oxygen sensor, which is located in the exhaust pipe (or manifold, don't recall for the 2.5L). If you smell gas and you're getting black soot from the tailpipe, you're probably running very rich and a bad oxygen sensor would be the first "likely suspect." pwrliftin
i considered replacing the 02 sensor a while ago but everytime i ordered the part online they sent me a single wire instead of the 3 wire. i tried autozone but they don't carry them so any ideas on where i can get the 3 prong plug? :dunno:

CWLONGSHOT
I'm glad you fixed it, but a bad O2 isn't gonna make it smell of gas. What did you do to fix the gas smell? CW
pwrliftin
Thats it. Maybe i got lucky and bumped something while changing the 02 sensor, but to my knowledge all i did was swap the sensor and it stopped
