sinkrun
How hard is it to replace the spring strut assembly on a ford taurus for some one who has never done this?? I have been searching the web and havent found much other than removing the strut from coil. We are going to buy the quick strut assembly since the spring is broke. I have a fair amount of mech knowledge but I know this can be tricky and can get you hurt.
Geonovast
I'd use some of this stuff, guaranteed to never cause a problem again.
jpdocdave
if you buy a whole assembly you're on easy street. if you're talking about the strut, spring, and mount assembly all pre assembled on purchase. the possibility of getting hurt is when you have to replace just the strut, and loosen the nut on top to separate the mount from the strut, thus letting the pressure off the spring. this requires a spring compressor. the whole assembly is simply 3 nuts under the hood, and two bolts on the strut, and maybe a stabilizer link on each side, and maybe a brake line bracket. very easy for a do it yourselfer. Ended up taking to a family friends shop it was just to consuming for me.

I did all 4 on my SHO - it was easy if you get the complete unit. All I needed was an air wrench and a BFH.
Automan2164
Replacing it is easy, but if you have to change camber or caster once its done, break out the BFH and a spot weld driller / chisel. You have to "Unweld" the upper strut mount from the body, and move it manually. :D Ford even put studs with nuts so you could refasten once the welds are broke, but still, should have just left the plant unwelded. Took me a couple, and the discovery of a sharp spot weld drill it to get good at it. Rob L.
sinkrun
I take it I will have to have a alignment done?
Automan2164
Would be a good thing to check. Rob L.
Akula69
I take it I will have to have a alignment done? I had to, and Rob is totally correct about the spot welds...I broke mine with a cold chisel.
