Trans mount

Recommended Posts

Looked underneath today and saw that my trans mount is beyond toast. Explains the rattling under my seat. Was wondering what would be easier, dropping the cross member or try and jack the trans up. I've heard the x member bolts can be a pain in the a$$, but once they are out it seems pretty easy and straight forward. Any thoughts?

You might break a couple, but just soak the nut on the frame with some penetrant, and take your time. You can always drill out a broken bolt. It also depends on where the truck is from. If its spent some time in the rust belt, you might have a few problems.

Call it a stupid question, but if my BA 10/5 mount is about to fry and break free, is there any problem with making a perma mount by tac welding two pieces of steel along either side of it to brace the two halves?

FYI BA10/5 mount is $350 dollars up here and it only comes from the dealership, and you have to ask for it under YJ wrangler.

Take a Bungee cord and hook one end to the cross member, go over the tail shaft and hook the other end back to the cross member. Vibration is the biggest reason not to weld the mount the way you suggested. If you were to weld the front mounts in an identical manner it would work. But would be a B*tch to drive.
