Pics of Gauge Cluster..

Recommended Posts

I got a gauge cluster at the junkyard today, I'm not sure what year of Cherokee it is from, but I might look up the part number (or if someone else could) and figure it out.. I hope this is the right gauge cluster.. I do have a 2.5L in my Comanche with 5 speed.. I'm not sure if this is from a 4.0L or not.. (should that matter?)

The label under the Cherokee's hood was ripped off and I couldn't see the year or engine size of the Jeep..

I does have on the left side (black thing in the picks, have lights for certain things (e-brake, battery, part time, arrow to shift up, all of that..

In the pics, also, it has blue rubber plug kind of things over the lights, so I'm guessing that the dashboard lights are blue when turned on??

Any feedback will help! If someone has a sight I can look up the part number, that would be great!!

It really is hard to tell, but in the third picture it appears to be a cluster form a jeep that used an electronic speedometer (rather then a cabled one). I also do not see the receptacle for the second plug from the dash harness (should be to the right of the missing speedometer receptacle).

If I had to guess I'd say this cluster came out of a 95-96 model jeep.

What year MJ are you trying it in?

IF you look on top of it, where the papers are... In the stamped circle, the numbers are 0886, is that the inspection date??

Also, does anyone have a picture of a stock 1987 Jeep Comanche Chief gauge cluster?

Get the cluster with all the functioning guages, you will be a lot happier with that one. The guage you have now(but won't work) those lights are called idiot lights. They will only light up once it is too late, like when my alternator died the BATT light went on as the truck lost power and died.

So.. the one I need would be one with the idiot lights??

Thanks

No.

Why would you swap IN a cluster with idiot lights? What do you have now, and why do you want to replace it?

The usual reason for swapping out the cluster is to get rid of the idiot lights and get a cluster with full gauges, and usually a tach (although around '88 the Pioneer level had real gauges for oil pressure, water temp and voltage, but did NOT have a tachometer). What you want is a gauge cluster for a late '87 thru '90 XJ or MJ with full gauges. If you want a tach, be sure it has the tach. In that range of years (like the one in the photo above from mfpdm) the tach has a potentiometer that can be adjusted for 4-cylinder or 6-cylinder, so which vehicle it came out of isn't important.

Well, I reckon that's what we all figured. So obviously there would be no point in replacing with another idiot light cluster. From mid-87 thru 90 the full gauge cluster with tachometer was standard in the Laredo and Limited levels, and the tach was optional in the Pioneer and Chief levels (they had the gauges, but no tach). Jeep sold a LOT of Cherokees in those years, mostly in the higher trim levels, so you shouldn't have a hard time finding one.

Ok thanks for all your help! Sorry if I didn't give enough information before.. I appreciate you putting up with my questions.. Next thing is to look back in my old threads and find the part number for the oil pressure guage temp sensor..
