Horn - Location - How many - suggested replacement

OK so it's time to replace the horn. I've found one, passenger side, up in front of the front wheel. Did the comanche come with one or two horns? Should there be a second horn on the drivers side? Or was the horn actually originally in a different location? Suggestions for a replacement horn?

I added a second horn right next to the first one. Later on I wanted louder so I picked up a air horn kit. I mounted that under the pressure bottle with the horns bolted to the bottom of the plate.

 

Just yesterday, I moved them to the top of the same plate. I have more room for them since using the alum bottle.

 

All run off same horn switch. The only thing I did was add an additional relay with the factroy horn wire as the trigger wire.

If your original horn wire connector has two wires spiced together at the connector, one of those wires goes to the other side in the front... same color... I found this out after wiring in a second horn on the driver side. I saw the wire just dangling there and wondered what it was for, saw it was the same color as my horn wires and then tested it...HORN!

So, other than the air horn idea ... I'm thinking about that one...lol... any body else have any suggestions on a particular brand of horn? I know there is eBay and JC Wit. Just trying to make use of others peoples knowledge and experience (other wise known as wisdom).

X2 on this question,

 

I'm running the low tone side only, I guess I could get a super low tone for the passengers side, and have that deep "get the @#$% out of my way sound",

instead of the lame 'eennt' sound it makes now.

There's wiring present for 2 horns: low tone and high tone. One on Driver's side & one on pass side. The base trucks had a single tone horn on the driver's side. A horn on the pass side indicates you have dual tone.

 

 

Mine has two. Sounds funky. Loud for non air horns, tho.

I used HI and LO GM horns from a 1965 Buick Electra 225. They are big all-metal horns that sound like a city bus when activated. Fit nicely up in the space too. Back in the day they knew how to make horns that got your attention. :eek: Old Caddy horns work well too. :cheers:
