Removing a headliner?

In my ever going attempts to make this ugly truck very abused by its PO better, i got a severely drooping headliner.

 

Is their a point in having the carpet and such there? Or is it cosmetic?

if you take off the carpet it leaves you with a bare headliner. the bare headliner is green insulation that if rubbed sprinkles down like snow into your eyes and clothes and causes severe discomfort and itching. if your going to take off your headliner anyway, its very easy just to put a new one on. i just now posted a DYI thread on replacing your headliner and it should be very helpfull :D here's the link:
