While I was at wallypants yesterday, I noticed rustoleum makes a "stone look" rattlecan. It got me thinking

I know a lot of people bedline the bottom 8 inches or so of their rigs for chip resistance, as well as a cool look. What about this stuff? I think it would be a really neat idea, especially for those of us who have trail jeeps.

Oh and if anyone does this before me, you owe me a royalty of $3 per can of paint :rotfl2:

I'm sure it would look fine, but I doubt that Rustoleum stone look paint is very chip resistance, or would work as well as bedliner.

No, I knew that, but a lot of companies make a clear chip guard that can be texturized and painted over. That was my plan

and all of those chip guards are JUNK.

If you want textured, stick with the 'Hammered' stuff. What you are looking at is for decorative pots and stuff. Also consider the Duplicolor spray in bed liner. Has a smooth type texture to it.

The duplicolor spray liner is good, need a few coats tho, mine's peeling already. Found some auto underbody coating that's thicker for half the price at Farm & Fleet.

Sorry to hijack the thread there guys

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on the chip guards. Sure the ones you can but at NAPA and Autozone are junk. But some of the 3m and SEM ones are bulletproof. Trust me, I've been relacing factory chipguards with them for a few years now at the shop.

As far as what I'm "going for" I wasn't actually planning on using the stone look stuff as a chip guard. Just as like an accent deal. There is no rattle can out there that's gonna be worth a crap when it comes to abrasion resistance. I'm a professional autobody painter, so I know the ins and outs of that realm. It was merely an idea to use as trim on a jeep.
