ICEBOX
Ok I'm TRYING to get my friends ol 77 ford 400 2bbl running better. But not having much luck. here is whats going on. the truck stumbles all the time. hard starting most of the time . I have rebuilt the 2bbl and timed it to 2,4,6, and 10 it will even run at 30 BTC ! plugs and tune up are good. I just noticed this to day . when I reajusted the float level ( WET) . when I released the needle and seat pressure there was air bubble coming up. I also ran the motor with the top of the carb off and air is comming up out of the needle and seat. I would say I have a hole some place I need to track down?? does this sound right ? I have not worked on a carbed motor in a while so I'm a bit rusty. But I should have no air . Taking input. Thank you in advance . ICEBOX

Eagle
You need anything but a Ford/Autolite carburetor. Look at Summit Racing's catalog or web site. They have (I think) some 2-barrel carbs that'll bolt right on. Better, of course, would be to swap the intake and convert to a 4-barrel. Better gas mileage (if the driver can control the right foot) AND better performance. Win-win.
ICEBOX
But what do you think of the AIR coming up the nee dle and seat ?
DirtyComanche
Fuel delivery issue to the carb...? What condition are the hoses in between the tank and a fuel pump? If I'm reading you correctly, you're getting air out of the fuel inlet, past the needle valve for float bowl fuel height? That air is being drawn into the fuel either at the pump (I'm assuming it's mechanical), or prior to it. It is common for the rubber hoses to deteriorate and produce pin hole leaks. At low fuel demand the leaks are minor, but as fuel demand increases an increasing amount of air is drawn in with the fuel, leading to fuel starvation and a stumble. Something as simple as a hose clamp being too loose can also cause the same problem.
