azscott
...what year range would be best. So, I have an 89 Comanche Sport, 4.0, 5 speed Ba-10. Instead of constant running back and forth to a junk yard..and competeing with everyone else looking for what I am looking for...I am thinking of just getting a Cherokee as a parts vehicle. I would want the seats...so a 2 door would be best...obviously the Transmission Ax-15...correct....and maybe down the road the engine but not sure if I really care to put an HO in it. Plus I would use any spare parts of it I could and then jumk the rest of the vehicle once I rape. Just so much easier to have a parts car sitting 6 feet away. With that said what years of the Cherokee are the best for using as a parts vehicle. What year did they stop puting the Puegot in them and swap to the Ax-15. Were there any years in the early 90's that they still had a Renix 4.0 but without the Puegot in it? scott
WBKrazy
depends on what you want to do.... if you want to swap out to an HO motor, you'll need a 91 or newer... i think 89 was the last year for the pukegoat, they switched midyear, so if you want to stay renix w/an ax-15 you'll need an 89-90.. i'm staying renix with mine cause i don't want to rebuild the entire truck, so i scored an 87 xj for a donor with the 4.0 and aw-4/np231 combo... azscott
..not looking to do an HO swap...I am satisfied with my Renix. So..it looks like only a couple years with a Renix 4.0 AND an AX-15. That is cool....they come around...I see em quite a bit on Craigs. scott
Geonovast
You can put any year AX-15 behind a Renix motor. It's a good idea to look for a 94+ for the external slave cylinder.
Eagle
It might help if you'd tell us what year your truck is. Assuming a 4.0L engine, the Renix years were 1987 thru 1990. The AX-15 transmission started showing up midway into the 1989 model year. Midway through the 1989 model year was also when the C101 connector under the hood disappeared, so if your truck is a 1987 through early 1989, a late '89 or '90 would have the AX-15 tranny but the wiring harness would not be a direct plug-n-play replacement (unless you replace the complete harness).
