Show me your Cruise control connector (pic please)

Recommended Posts

I am finely getting around to diagnosing my non working cruise control, I first check under the dash and of coarse it is unplugged. I know what the male end looks like from research in case I needed to buy a new stalk. My problem is I don't know where and what it plugs into.

It plugs into this cruise control box that should be behind the knee board on the lower dash.

You don't have a cruise control box. Cruise is all controlled by the ECU starting in 91. I installed cruise in my 91 4.0, using parts from a 91 4.0 XJ. All I needed was to change the stalk, and plug in the wire that's under the dash, and install the actuator on the passenger fender, hook up to vacuum, plug it in, and run the throttle cable. Unfortunately I'm several hundred miles away from my MJs, so I can't take a pic.

Here is a picture of the female connector and one with the cruise plugged in. I ran into the same problem when I used the engine and harness with the column from a '92 Cherokee in my '87 Comanche. I had to look at my brother's Chevy S-10 to figure out what the female connector looked like. The harness with this connector comes through the firewall just to the right of the accelerator cable.

I have circled the plug to make it more visible. It's not focused really well but it's kind of difficult to get to. The top picture is the plug only and the bottom is with the cruise control plugged in. The cruise control wire has an orange sleeve on the end.
